Museum-grade storage solutions now available at Cargolution

By Geneviève Cournoyer-Scalise February 02 2021

High standard-compliant storage solutions are now available from Cargolution, a competitive advantage to better meet the needs of our customers in the fine arts industry.

This new addition to our service offering is possible due to the recent acquisition of a warehouse by one of our trusted partners. After taking possession, they transformed their depot to meet the high criteria of the museum industry. Everything has been done to recreate the specific conditions found in the vaults of large renowned museums in order to preserve the integrity of the works of art that are kept there, whether in transit or in a medium-long-term storage agreement.

The 5,500 sq. ft. building, of which 4,000 sq. ft. is dedicated to storage space, is strategically located outside of high-traffic areas, near major highways and a few minutes from Montreal-Trudeau Airport (YUL), to facilitate transit and to optimize transportation time. A month of transformation work has led to a perfect replication of all the requirements and the current standards of a museum reserve but replicated on a larger scale.

Here are the advantages that our brand-new storage service offers:

  • Ventilation system
  • Temperature control at 20 degrees Celsius.
  • Relative humidity controlled at 50%.
  • Alarm system
  • 24/7 surveillance camera system.
  • Controlled access
  • Shelf system to provide protection in the event of a disaster
  • Transit area (airlock) for loading/unloading trucks.

Museum logistics

With the ongoing worldwide pandemic, exhibitions are slowing down, museum supplies are overflowing, and high standard-compliant storage solutions are scarce. Thus, the initiative has been warmly welcomed within this niche industry, which can now benefit from greater flexibility in terms of emergency logistics if a problem arises during the transportation process. For large museums, accessibility to temporary overnight storage is a major asset when it comes to choosing a freight forwarder. In the event of a problem, our customers are reassured to know that their art works will be secured in a reliable place that meets museum-grade standards.

But our storage solutions are not only for grand museums. If you are a private collector, an estate manager, an artist in need of space, or in the midst of a renovation project, we certainly have a turnkey solution for you. Because the Cargolution offering does not stop there, it also includes pickup service, packaging solutions and installation!

Professional Packaging Solution

Professional, efficient and fast, our museology technician has more than 15 years of experience in the artwork transportation and museum sector. Always meticulous, he does not skimp on the means to find creative packaging solutions adapted to the most surprising pieces. Because packaging is an art in itself to ensure the protection and integrity of works of art. Determining the right material to use according to the type of protection sought is a matter of expertise and technique above all!

The size and weight of the works will be determining factors that will guide our specialist in the choice of materials recommended for the packaging. To protect the surfaces, our technician will use neutral and non-abrasive materials to come into contact with the objects. Among all the options considered, insulating and protective foam to counter shocks and vibrations will also be used to secure the art piece to ensure optimal conservation inside the transportation case.

Dealing with a specialized freight forwarder recognized in the art world for its excellence has many advantages. No matter what you do, we are convinced that our passion for arts is a shared one.
